Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to install CO² refrigeration components and associated equipment
- Safety hazards not previously identified are reported, assessed and advice on risk control measures is sought from work supervisor
- Nature of work is obtained from documentation or from work supervisor to determine the scope of work to be undertaken
- Refrigeration component and equipment installation is appropriately sequenced in accordance with job schedule
- Sources of materials required for refrigeration work are obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
- Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to carry out refrigeration work are obtained and checked for correct operation and safety
- Install CO² refrigeration system
- Refrigeration components and equipment are installed in accordance with technical industry standards, job specifications and requirements with sufficient access to affect electrical and pipe work connections and maintenance
- Refrigeration components and equipment are installed straight and square, in the required locations and within acceptable tolerances
- Pressure testing is conducted at a pressure compatible with CO² and in accordance with industry standards
- Leaks are located and rectified using testing methods appropriate to the system and in accordance with industry standards and practices
- Refrigeration system is evacuated to the required level and cleaned of moisture and contaminants in accordance with industry standards and practices
- Unplanned situations are responded to in accordance with workplace procedures, discussed with appropriate person/s and documented in a manner that minimises risk to personnel and equipment
- Installation and tests are carried out without damage to apparatus, circuits, the surrounding environment or services and using sustainable energy practices
- Commission CO² refrigeration system
- Appropriate person/s is consulted to ensure the work is coordinated effectively with others involved on the worksite
- Extent of the system and location of system components is determined from site inspection and/ or job specifications and diagrams
- System control settings and operating parameters are determined from job specifications and requirements
- Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to commission a CO² refrigerant system are obtained and checked for correct operation and safety
- Refrigeration system is charged safely with refrigerant grade CO² and compatible lubricants in accordance with industry standards and practices
- Refrigeration actual and specified range of operating conditions are determined from measured and calculated values as they apply to CO² vapour compression and volatile secondary (liquid recirculation/cascade) system in accordance with workplace procedures
- Pre-commissioning checks are undertaken to ensure components are in place and secure in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards
- Need to test or measure live operating CO² system is determined in accordance with WHS/OHS requirements and workplace safety procedures
- CO² refrigeration system pressure controls, valves, pumps and regulators are adjusted to their required settings
- Testing/measuring devices are used to observe the operation of refrigeration system and fine adjustments of controls are made as required in accordance with manufacturer specifications
- Commissioning is conducted efficiently, without waste of materials or damage to apparatus, the surrounding environment or services and using sustainable energy practices
- Complete work and relevant documentation
- Final check of the installed components and equipment is made to verify that it complies with relevant industry standards and job requirements
- 'As-installed' refrigeration components and equipment are documented and appropriate person/s notified in accordance with workplace established procedures
- Commissioning results are documented and include final operating parameters of the refrigeration system
